Parents / Carers
As you will be aware from the Government Coronavirus Briefing on 16 April 2020 lock down has been extended for a further 3 weeks. In line with advice from Public Health England, the Department for Education and Central Government Thomas Whitham Sixth Form will close to students until Monday 11 May 2020 when a decision will be made whether the Sixth Form will reopen.
You will no doubt be aware of the stated intention that examinations at A Level, AS Level and GCSE Level will be cancelled for 2020. This does not mean however that assessments are cancelled. It seems certain that teachers will be providing grades to examination boards to allow them to award vital qualifications. To this end, it is imperative that all students follow the guidance on the e-learning platforms to complete work set, attempt assessed tasks and catch up on any missing assignments. We cannot stress enough that whilst the Sixth Form is physically closed until further notice, work has not been cancelled – there is still plenty to be done to ensure that all of our students achieve the highest grades possible.
Teachers have already discussed what is needed with each individual learner and will keep in regular contact via email and/or e-learning platforms. We would ask that you support this learning as much as possible.
An obvious priority is that we keep in touch with families. It is a rapidly evolving situation and we hope that some time in the future we will be able to manage at least a partial opening as we want to ensure that all of our students are prepared fully for life after TWSF, at university, work or at their new college.
Please ensure that we have an up to date mobile number and email so that we can contact you directly as and when the need arises. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your details and we will include you on the update group list. Please keep checking our website www.twsf.lancs.sch.uk for updates, we will also be available through email. We will redirect our phone system but that may only be operated on a reduced timetable.
These are challenging and uncertain times and we really appreciate your understanding and support. We will continue to support and encourage our students in every way possible.
Wishing you all every good health.
